Dear AP Psych student
Dear future AP Psych Student,
Psychology has been by far one of my favorite classes I've taken in high school. It's fascinating and there's so much to learn both in the course and on your own. My advice for your best chance at success in the class is to do a little bit every day. There's a lot of content in such a small amount of time that it's important to utilize the spacing effect so that you're going to remember more when the quizzes and AP exams come around. Use the vocab schedule given to you, and don't cram information, especially on the day of the quiz or exam. Even though Ms. Halfen is fairly lenient on deadlines, don't take advantage of them and complete your assignments on time if you have the opportunity to do so.
My favorite activity this year is the blog. The prompts are interesting and they give a chance for me to apply some of my knowledge in real-life scenarios. Additionally, it encourages me to explore different avenues of psychology and how they're used in the world.
My least favorite activity was the Clinical Psychology Unit Presentations. This was mainly because I found it difficult to learn from other people's presentations. I'm not entirely sure why because it was just a lecture similar to the normal class but I found that that area was what I had to focus on the most when reviewing for the AP.
My only suggestion for the class is to be able to review the quizzes a few days after taking them. I found that there were times when I had to guess on questions and so when a similar question came up, I couldn't find the correct answer. I believe that if I had some time to forget the question, and then attempted the question again, I could have done better after.
In conclusion, remember to have lots of fun, ask questions, and get your work done on time!
Sincerely, William Lam.
